How To Host A Teenage Party To Remember
As your kids approach their adolescent years, you might find yourself getting less involved in their social lives as they develop relationships and want to spend all of their free time with friends.
But that doesn’t mean that a big birthday party is off the cards. While your own teens might start to think it’s a bit uncool to hang around their parents constantly, you’ve still got a few years when you can throw an amazing teenage birthday party that their family and friends will remember.
That raises the question: what does an awesome teenage party actually look like? And how do you make sure that your teen has an amazing time to celebrate their special day?
As the experts in throwing memorable parties – including countless teenage parties – we’re here to help. Here’s everything you need to know to make your teenager’s party one for the history books.
Assemble teenage birthday party ideas
The best way to start the plan for your teenager’s party? Speak to them!
While we’re able to suggest a whole bunch of fun ideas and suggestions for your teenage party, your own child knows what they like far better than anybody else. Particularly as they’re approaching their teen years, kids develop fun and unique personalities that they want to share with their friends and family.
If they’ve always been a big football fan, there are still ways that you can include this in the party planning – such as a themed cake, or gifts that support their love of the game.
Or if they’ve always been a fan of the spookier time of the year, you can decorate your venue with scarier elements that wouldn’t have been suitable when they were younger.
Choose some teenage party games to set the tone
While they might not be playing pass the parcel anymore, your teenager’s party can still be packed with age-appropriate fun to get everybody involved.
This could include big group games such as:
- A murder mystery. If your child has a flair for the dramatic, they might enjoy a murder mystery involving their friends and family. This could be positioned as the main event of the evening, or a background game that culminates in a sudden murder!
- Human bingo. Want to break the social ice that comes with smaller parties? A cost-effective option is to create a human bingo card, with unique traits or experiences that your guests have to work together to find out.
- Music-based fun. With our teenage-themed parties, music can be the main event. Your child will have the opportunity to pick their own playlist, which could lead to crazy fun being triggered by the announcement of a particular song.

What kind of party food is best for teenagers?
Choosing the party food for your teenagers can seem like an intimidating task, but keep it simple and you’ll be sure to please everyone who attends.
Pizza
When you can’t think of what to choose, choose pizza. It’s rare you’ll come across a teenager who doesn’t like at least some variation of pizza, and the sheer flexibility that it offers means that you can cater to almost every kind of palate with ease.
You could even make DIY pizzas part of the party! Simply lay out a selection of toppings along with some pizza bases, and let the guests run wild with creating their own favourite pizzas. If you’re throwing an outdoor party, you could even hire a proper pizza oven to add an authentic feel.
Pizza is also perfect for sharing, making it a teenage party food for the ages. Grab a slice, and get back to the dancing!
Sliders
Sliders are a bit of a new creation from across the pond, but they’ve been popping up in the UK at all kinds of events – including teenage parties.
The beauty of a slider is that it packs the flavour and cravability of a burger into a smaller package, making it great for eating on the go. Your guests should still have a breather and enjoy their food during some downtime, but sliders are a great way to fill up a bunch of teenagers without needing a proper sit-down meal.
Be mindful of dietary restrictions
As with all kids parties, you need to be considerate of dietary restrictions when planning your teenage party food. This includes your standard allergens, but you’ll also need to take into account dietary preferences like vegetarianism and veganism which kids begin to develop as they enter their adolescent years.
To avoid any hungry guests on the day of your party, make sure to check in with parents if needed to make sure that you know of any restrictions or requirements when it comes to food.
Entertaining teenagers at your party
So you’ve got the food sorted, and have the guestlist confirmed – but how do you make sure everybody has fun at your teenage party?
Leave that part to us! We’ve thrown exciting teenage parties for kids up and down the country, with our UV Glow Party and Laser Disco Party creating a nightclub feel that will make your event the talk of the school for weeks to come.
Our teenage parties also offer fun extras to maximise the party vibe, like UV glow packs and additional bubble, smoke, and snow machines to really transform your venue into a bumping club.
Don’t host it alone!
When throwing a teenage party, make sure that you enlist the help of some other parents to keep everything running smoothly.
The reality is that you can’t single-handedly monitor a teenage party, especially not if your guestlist exceeds 30 teens. By bringing another adult (or group of parents) into the mix, you can keep an eye on things while making sure everybody’s having a good time.
But don’t cramp their style! There’s a thin line between parental care and being overbearing in the eyes of teens, so parents could set up in a separate corner or room, and then roam the main party in the background as and when needed.
